The river is navigable throughout its length. The area of the Dniester basin is 721000 km2.The Dniester flows through expanses of the Transdniestria into vast estuary of the Black Sea at Dnestrovsk.

As a result of snow melting and rains in the Carpathians there are several floods on the Dniester every year. They can be expected in spring and summer and in autumn. The fast, gusty Dniester spins around hills with wide winds, runs on sloppy banks and becomes sevene at the river stretches. Lower the town of Bendery in the flood- lands of the river you can see vast overgrowth of reeds and sedge with numerous channels and creeks with nests of water swimming birds.

Picturesque Dniester banks have lime stone cares, cliffs and woody slopes. Ash- trees, poplars, willows, horn-beams, oaks, nut- trees make up forests growing along the Dniester banks. The fauna of these forests is rich and various, here lots of herbs grow. Forests are replaced by gardens and vineyards.

In lower reaches of the Dniester there is the Kuchurgan estuary at which Moldavian hydro-electric station has been built. April - August is the best time for travelling on the Dniester. But August is the best. The lowest level of water in the river is in September and winter months. InDecember it is usually covered with ice which is broken up in early March. Dniester bends are especially beautiful in spring when flourishing apple gardens look like an incessant.

Leaving Bendery in the direction of the village of Kitskany you can see a picturesque tract of forest - Mereneshtsky Forest. Abundance of sunny days, fresh air of the Dniester valley, availability of natural medicinal spring of mineral water of "Yessentuki- Truskavets" type make up excellent conditions for treatment and rest. Here there are some medicinal-remedial complexes: 'Tigina", Kommunalnik" and "Victoria".

12km. away from Bendery in the region of the village of Kopanka there is a beautiful forest reserve "Turkish forest". Here different decidnous kinds of trees grow: different breeds of an oak, an ash-tree, a hornbeam. The forest grows on the banks of the old Dniester-bed. In stagnant water there are different kinds of fish and plants.
The forest reserve is the place of rest for many townspeople.

In 1967 the forest was taken under the protec¬tion of the state due to growing "downy oak", a surviving form. 14 spe¬cies of mammals live in the forest: roes, wild boars, hares, badgers. In the forest you can see bright grassy glades with many herbs growing there.

Pridnestrovye - the region of fields, gardens, vineyards. Rich crops of vegetables, fruit, grapes, corn are grown on its fertile soils. Under the generous Moldavian sun apples grow ripe; bunches of grape are getting ripe in order to decorate dinner tables of townspeople on holidays and week-days. Some kinds of grape will turn into famous Moldavian wines.

Our trip has come to an end. Its aim is to get acquainted with our generous and beautiful town. Who has been here at least once, who has travelled along blue hills or in green forests, who has enjoyed the monuments of olden times, who has sunbathed on Dniester beaches, he will love this region and he will remember it with warm and grateful feelings.

WELCOME TO OUR TOWN!
