One of my very favorite books is "The Thorn Birds" by Colleen McCullough. It had a big impact on me when I read it at the age of thirteen, but I had no idea that years later it would take on a more personal meaning.
It's about a girl's life story in Australia from the age of four to late adulthood. It's a chronicle of three generations of her family and their struggles. The main plot line, though, is her lifelong forbidden love for an older priest and how it affects her whole life.
